It All
Began with A Dream! Much like Abraham, in 1996 Pastor Nolan McCants was instructed by God to leave the comfort and familiarity of his present home and go to a land that He would show him. Much like Abraham who followed God by faith, Nolan, his wife Gloria and their two little girls, obeyed God by pursing this divine dream to establish a house for the Lord in Plainfield, Illinois. Like Joseph, it all began with a literal dream. The pastor is confident, though, that it is God who planted Harvest Church in Plainfield or it would not have produced the fruit that it has. Nolan said he is not someone who recalls dreams often from his sleep. But in this particular dream, he was driving on a highway and came upon cornfields. In the distance he could see a tree lined horizon, while in the cornfield he saw two men standing. Nolan said that in his dream, he got out of the car and walked over to the two men, one of which was Kenneth Copeland. They began to pray and Copeland then turned to McCants and said, "Let’s cross over, this land belongs to us." As they began to pray, Nolan said he saw droves of people emerge from among the trees. They were people of all races and cultures. "In a moment we were consumed by people all around us," pastor McCants said. He woke up. It was morning, but the dream remained vivid and fresh in his mind all that day. He began asking himself what did it mean. The next day while pondering the dream while in his place of business, he heard a quiet voice say, "Plainfield." That didn’t make much sense to the Chicago-area resident, who had only visited this small farming community once to see his former high school dean. He said to himself, "There are nothing but ‘cornfields in Plainfield.’" While the words suddenly clicked, he decided that couldn’t be right. Nevertheless, the dream continued to stir him. One day he finally decided to take the 45 minute trek to the village, coming in along Route 126 from I-55. Turning right at Route 59 and came to 135th Street, and amazingly he saw the fields. As he drove upon them, they suddenly appeared just as those in his dream. A tree lined horizon to the east. Nolan and his mother-in-law, who had driven with him, stopped, walked into the field, raised their hands and prayed. Nolan recalled saying, "Lord, If this is your will, so be it." God sent other signs to confirm his calling to come to Plainfield, all of it he shared with Bishop W. J. Chambliss, under whom he was serving in a ministry capacity at the time. Bishop Chambliss supported the move and subsequently installed him as a pastor. So a total of seven adults (Nolan included) set out to establish what is rapidly becoming an emerging ministry here in the Will County area. Today, just as was prophesied in his dream, Harvest serves as home to people from all races and cultures, Black, White, Hispanic and Asian, ergo, the slogan...A Place for You! We are one blood, one people fulfilling God’s purposes. |
