The Lord's Prayer

Notes from Pastor Nolan McCants’ talk during Harvest’s Man II Man fellowship, February 2007. There are elements of this prayer that Jesus prescribes that when incorporated into our prayer time, we will experience a fuller and more comprehensive time of fellowship with God. Start your prayer with a moment to reflect on the fact that you are about to enter into the presence of the creator of the heavens and earth. The fact that you even have a heart to do so is evidence of His wanting you to be near Him, as only He can put this in your heart.

Mat 6:9-13 (NKJV) "In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

- Recognize the awe of being in the presence of Almighty God, a Holy God who has invited us to unrestricted fellowship with Him

- Speak to Him as unto your father and all that that implies (protector, provider, loving, filled with desire to see you succeed, etc.)

- Be reminded that only believers are considered His children

10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

- Primary is the work of His Kingdom in the earth

- Pray about those things that impact the expansion of His authority in ever dimension of life.

- His will is that things on earth reflect the things of heaven. Ask Him into government, family, education, entertainment, commerce and in every place

- Use this time to pray specifically about things that Harvest is doing to impact the world

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

- Now it’s your turn, ask God to provide

- This is a faith walk. What He provides TODAY is sufficient. Tomorrow will take care of itself

- Reflect His being your provider (not the job, hard work, investments, connections)

- Express gratitude for those things the He does provide regularly and faithfully

12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

- Forgiveness is essential to being forgiven

- Name those whom you need to forgive in God’s presence

- Ask God’s wisdom for repairing broken relationships

- Seek Him regarding making a change in your heart regarding hurtful situation

13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.

- Petition God for clarity of Direction

- Seek Him so that your feet are ordered and you find yourself where He wants you

- He is able to keep you as long as you are where He guides (a place of obedience)

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

-          Acknowledge & Celebrate His being Lord over your life

-          Recall & speak aloud of His being sovereign over heaven, earth & every detail of your life

-          Glory speaks of His name and due recognition as the only wise GOD. Give it to Him. Speak to Him about who He is. (The Psalmists can help a lot here – read them aloud to Him, remember some as well)

Amen. (simply means, I agree)
